چکیده

The optimum receive antenna selection combining rule that minimizes the bit error probability is presented. It is derived from a general relationship between the bit error probability and the log-likelihood ratio (LLR), and selects the receive antenna providing the largest LLR magnitude. The optimum selection combining rule is applied to single transmit (Tx) antenna and space-time block code (STBC) systems, with NR receive (Rx) antennas, and the bit error probability is derived for BPSK signaling in Rayleigh flat fading channels. A suboptimum selection combining rule based on noncoherent envelope detection is also presented and analyzed. For STBC systems, the optimum generalized selection combining in which M(≤ NR) Rx antennas providing the largest LLR magnitude are selected and combined is presented.

Impact of Antenna Correlation on Optimum Improved Energy Detector in Cognitive Radio

This paper investigates the detection performance of an improved energy detector for a secondary user with spatially correlated multiple antennas. In an improved energy detector, an arbitrary positive power operation p replaces the squaring operation in a conventional energy detector, and the optimum value of p that gives the best detection performance may be different from 2. Firstly, for a gi...

A reduced complexity MIMO system with antenna selection for high data rate wireless communications

In this paper, orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBC) are considered for investigating impact of receive antenna selection on the capacity and error probability analysis of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The results are compared with and without antenna selection of 2X2 and 2X4 MIMO systems. Achieved capacity with receive antenna selection for r T N N ≥ has been found close t...

Statistical antenna selection for spatial multiplexing systems

Spatial multiplexing is a signaling strategy for achieving high spectral efficiencies in communication links that employ multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas. In such systems it will be desirable to use only a subset of the available transmit and/or receive antennas to reduce cost and complexity. In this paper we address the problem of optimal antenna subset selection in spatial mult...

Antenna Selection for Multiple-Antenna Transmission Systems: Performance Analysis and Code Construction

This correspondence studies antenna selection for wireless communications systems that employ multiple transmit and receive antennas. We assume that 1) the channel is characterized by quasi-static Rayleigh flat fading, and the subchannels fade independently, 2) the channel state information (CSI) is exactly known at the receiver, 3) the selection is available only at the receiver, and it is bas...

On Optimum Power Allocation for Multi-Antenna Wideband Helicopter-to-Ground Communications

This paper introduces a generalized version of time-reversed, space-time block codes (TR-STBCs), called GTRSTBCs that operates with non-equal power allocation between two inter-symbol interference (ISI) channels in a 2 transmit, 1 receive antenna helicopter-to-ground radio link. The power allocation is parameterized by ρ, the portion of the total available power allocated to channel 1. The crit...
